This was a fun project that I enjoyed working on. Really thought it was funny to see reactions and see how much we can do with the page source.
I wasn’t really sure what to do as a performance nor was I confident on choosing any social media. So I decided to use the big four in the industry; Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter. I posted really wack and boring pictures on each social media platform but also uploaded it to my Snap story. With over 500 friends on Facebook, 300+ followers on Instagram, 100+ friends on Snapchat, and 200 followers on Twitter, I wanted to see what response I would get, if any, to see which post gains most attention and if any can influence the other. Based of the total amounts of followers, I figured that if everyone viewed my story they would possibly view the post on instagram or facebook. I felt like using Snapchat as a spotlight for all these weird posts. With 70 views on my story, I got 1 like on instagram and one “what the fuck is this shit,” in response to my Snapchat story.
So it seems like no one really cared what they saw on my story and bothered checking it out on the social media platform. No one really went and gave it a like. No one questioned the weirdness or random posts, because I believe that I already have a long history or being random and posting literally dumb shit and hashtags everywhere. I thought it was interesting to see in total all these followers in social media and just not really interact or question what we do on social media.
I used Snapchat and how it really aims to get you to send as many snaps as you can. The interface is very vivid and bright and really draws your eye. When you get a new snap it is at the top and all of them have time stamps. It lets you know when you got a new snap and how long you have been lacking. It can be very useful but really gives you that, ” hey you’ve been ignoring this person or app for 45 minutes.” It also really encourages you to explore snap stories because it is always glowing and with the implementation of ads, they make some revenue by having you go through your friends stories and hitting you with an ad out of no where. Most icons on the app are kept clean and white or black, but when their is some sort of intended interaction it is colored and encouraged for you to check it out. It also gives special attention to certain friends and groups by adding special emojis to show who has priority and tells you who your best friends are even though that label may be completely off.
Input / Output – main screen has a bigger visible button that encourages you take a photo. It is the one input that stands out then all the others.
By taking a photo it is implied that you will send it out and receive responses. Once you take a picture, it gives you a good amount of extra features to add to your photo, making a meme. Text, drawing, stickers, links. It gives you a lot to do and allows you to be as creative as you want.
When you take a picture, the only icon that is in color is the “send” button which makes tells you to go and send that sweet ass photo to all your friends.
It changes color of icons when it wants you click on something and it brings your attention to it. Also, when adding a friend it also recommends you start talking to them by saying, “say hi *insert waving hand emoji.*”
